2014 Underway…

Baile de California is off to a running start in 2014!  Classes/rehearsals have begun but new dancers are always welcome!  We are preparing for several upcoming performances beginning with 1st Thursday on Feb. 6th, 5:00 to 8:00 pm.  We will be performing at El Presidio de Santa Barbara at the popular Presidio Pastimes by Candlelight, sponsored by the Santa Barbara Trust for Historic Preservation.  Look for us in the Presidio Chapel, 123 E. Canon Perdido St.  We are looking forward to dancing to live music by local favorites, Luis Moreno and Mike Mullins, playing traditional instruments.  We will be joined by los Soldados del Presidio and will be inviting the audience to join us.

Feb. 8th we will be performing at EBF Productions’ Variety United show at the Marjorie Luke TheatreThe lobby will open at 6:00 pm offering a wide range of items for sale by local non-profit organizations.  The family-friendly show begins at 7:00 pm, tickets available at the door, CASH or CHECKS ONY, adults $15, students & seniors $10.

             More opportunities await Baile de California, historic events including the California Mission Studies Association’s Annual Conference in Paso Robles and at Mission San Antonio de Padua. 

 In April, Santa Barbara will celebrate her founding 232 years ago by Gov. Felipe de Neve and Fr. Junípero Serra with a re-enactment at El Presidio de Santa BarbaraEarly-California dance, pottery, archaeology, blacksmithing, adobe brick making, birthday cake, and the presentation of St. Barbara 2014 will all be part of the festivities!
