On Saturday, October 19th, Baile de California made its public debut as part of Variety United at the Marjorie Luke Theatre. Not only did we get to experience our first performance as a new company, we were privileged to open the show! We performed the crowd favorite, Las Altenitas. After the performance audience members shared with me how much they enjoyed hearing the music and seeing the dancing they remember from their childhood. This is Baile de California’s mission, to preserve cultural history. It touches our hearts whenever we hear these stories.
In addition to our own experience, we are happy to report it benefited Casa Esperanza Homeless Center, here in Santa Barbara. Casa Esperanza has been serving Santa Barbara’s homeless families and individuals since 1999. As are many non-profits, they are struggling to continue to provide much needed services. All proceeds from the Variety United show went to Casa Esperanza. For more info on this vital program please follow this link, http://www.casa-esperanza.org/cm/Home.html .
KEYT also helped in promoting the performance and shared a clip from the Variety United show. Casa Esperanza! http://www.keyt.com/news/casa-esperanza-homeless-shelter-gets-funding-boost-from-talent-show/-/17671600/22553582/-/p51p4jz/-/index.html
